CLAT 2014 in a Perplexing State

 1. The CLAT Result (both PG and UG) was declared on 31st May, 2014.

2. The students noticed incredible discrepancies in the actual marks and the expected marks. There were many cases where a Student calculated his expected marks based upon the model answers given in the Official Answer Key but when the results came out, those students got either very less marks or very high marks than the expected marks.

3. This discrepancy was reported to the CLAT Authorities and the CLAT Secretariat decided to withhold the results of both the UG and the PG candidates.

4. Afterwards a Press Note was put up on the CLAT Website stating that “The only issue the Secretariat found was that the barcode sticker affixed on the front page of OMR answer sheet and candidate sticker affixed on the back page, in few cases, was mismatching. Any mismatch between the barcode and the candidate sticker can cause the marks being reflected against a different roll number.

5. The Press Note also said that This would obviously generate a scenario of mismatching of score and eventual incorrect merit list. To remove any error due to this mismatch and to ensure that the OMR-generated score belongs to the corresponding candidate only, the reconciliation of the barcode sticker and the candidate sticker has been undertaken for all candidates.

6. Finally, the Press Note also promised that “OMR answer sheets will be uploaded in individual candidate’s login account once the reconciliation process is over”.

7. It has been more than two days since the result declared on 31st May got withheld. I called the CLAT Office today. The authorities told me that they are trying to finish the Reconciliation Process as soon as possible and the result can be expected either tomorrow or day after tomorrow.

8. My personal take on this issue is that CLAT Authorities have made a very big promise of uploading each and every OMR Sheet in Individual Candidate’s Login Account respectively. This sounds pretty simple but it is not.

9. Just imagine, close to 32000 OMR Sheets will have to be uploaded and similarly 32000 Web Links to download these OMR sheets will also have to be generated.

10. The stakes are very high now. CLAT Authorities know that they are not expected to make any mistake now. This means that they will have to counter check each and every OMR Sheet uploaded as well as each and every download link generated too.

11. Normally a Law School does not have an IT Team of more than 8-10 people. Scanning Documents takes a lot of time and so does counter-checking and generating download links. Thus, it is but natural that this Reconciliation Process is going to take at least three to four days if not more.

12. It is very easy to say that all they have to do is upload our OMR Sheets. But just try to imagine the backstage work that needs to be done to make this possible.

I think we should give CLAT Authorities there due share of time. If they are asking us to wait for 2-3 days, then, let us wait patiently by giving them a chance. I do not think it is prudent to jump to conclusions right now. Casting aspersions on any person or any authority without any substantial evidence must be avoided at all costs.

We can only hope that the issue that has kept us in limbo for so long gets resolved soon.
